Several Waihi / Waihi Beach Primary School cross country runners featured prominently in the Western BOP Schools Cross Country Championships held on Wednesday 20 June at Waipuna Park in Tauranga. Lorielle Chapman (Waihi East Primary School) and Loren Goodhue (Waihi Beach Primary School) did outstandingly well placing second and third in the year 4 and year 6 girls age groups respectively. Tasmin Simpson (Waihi East Primary School) also stood out placing fifth in the year 5 girls section.
These runners competed firstly at the Waihi District Primary Schools Cross Country event, with top placegetters in different age groups going on to the Northern Cluster Cross Country held at Whakamarama School. From there the top runners in each age group were selected to compete at the Western Bay of Plenty Cross Country Championships. The road to the WBOP Cross Country Championships involved significant challenges for all the runners, further highlighting the outstanding performances of Lorielle, Loren and Tasmin.
