A Big Breakfast / Fundraiser for the Breakfast Club will be held on Tuesday next week. As the finals of the Super 14 will have finished we are holding a gold coin mufti day on this day. Come dressed in the colours of your favourite sports team. We will be giving out prizes.

For the Breakfast Club to continue, we desperately need more volunteers to help out. The Breaky Club would love some fresh fruit donations. If you are able to help out, could you please send it along to Room 4. Many thanks.

This week we held our Annual Farm Fun Run. Our thanks to Mr Scherrer for allowing our farm fun run to take place on his farm. Robbie organised a great event. Our children got into the spirit and had a fantastic afternoon. Thanks also to Kylie Bentley for taking care of our first aid needs. We look forward to heading to Waihi College on the 3rd June to compete against other local schools.

Jo Matthews, Numeracy Advisor has been at school for two days working with the teaching team, supporting the teaching and learning of our maths programme. We enjoy Jo’s enthusiasm and knowledge at school. This afternoon she is working with Donna, Briar, Jude and Lynette preparing for our next numeracy evening. I hope you take the opportunity to come along to this funafter school event to discover how to help your child with numeracy at home.

Congratulations to our fantastic chocolate salespeople. You are doing an amazing job. Together, I am sure we will be able to make significant purchases of information technology equipment across our school. Our first aim is the data projectors in every room. More chocolates are available at the office if you would like further boxes to sell.

We are currently organising a teacher only day on Monday 22nd June. School will be closed this day. During this day the full staff of Waihi East School will work together to develop our school character leading onto our revised curriculum work. It is an exciting time at Waihi East School.

The Year 3/4 soccer afternoon was a real hit this week. Our thanks to Bonnie and Sasha for their energy and organisatiion. You looked stunning! Thanks also to Sandra who cooked sausages all afternoon. Thank you to all our coaches who are training children during the week and supporting them during their games. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated and skilled group of parents leading after school sport.

We are holding a Big Breakfast this Tuesday 2nd June. Come along for breaky, it’s a great start to the day. A mufti day will also be held on Tuesday for a gold coin donation. All money raised will be used to purchase food items for breakfast Club. The theme of our mufi day is dress in the colours of your favourite sports team. I am sure there will be a few students dressed in red, black and yellow on this day. Dare I say it, go the Chiefs this weekend!!

Thank you for your input into last weeks Education Review Office visit. Our staff are delighted with the report and now have identified areas that we will develop together as a school. The ERO Team produced large charts displaying evidence of good practise and our next steps. These are available for you to view in the staff room. It’s quite an interesting read. Key points that received a special mention were Charter Development (our school Vision work) Numeracy, Leadership, robust appraisal of teachers, community partnerships (e.g. breakfast club) and strong professional development within the school. The confirmed ERO report will be available to the school community late next month.

A huge thank you to parents for supporting the many exciting trips within our community and beyond. Your help with supervision and transport has given students wonderful sports and arts opportunities.
This week is the start of our chocolate fundraiser. The purpose of this fundraiser is to buy another data show projector that will be permanently set up in a classroom. Our aim is for a data show projector to be in every class by December of this year with staff and children using this tool on a daily basis. A data show projector is a tool teachers use to show new ideas, quality work and
research as a class.They enhance classroom learning. We have chosen this fundraiser because it is very successful. Chocolate is a ‘treat’ food, a food that we eat occasionally, as part of a balanced diet. Please help our school by selling a box of chocolates to friends and family. Leanne and Donna are our co ordinators. Please return all money or unsold chocolate to the office. We have 120 boxes to sell, although there are no prizes this year for chocolate sales, feel free to sell more than one box.

Sasha and Bonnie run the Year 3-4 soccer competition at school every Tuesday afternoon. They are planning an exciting afternoon on the 26th of May for their sports teams. We would like to support Bonnie and Sasha. We would like to field a parents team to play soccer against children and secondly parents who could organise a sausage sizzle. Please return the slip below if you can help.

Lastly we have cancelled out Fashion and Style Fundraising Night on 22 May, due to a lack of ticket sales. Thank you to parents who offered to support this event with baking and setting up the hall. We would like to acknowledge your help.

Room 3 have been looking at Tukutuku Patterns in Art and designing their own with a story that reflects on their culture land upbringing in New Zealand. Here is Baylee W’s pattern with a story that explains the meaning behind the Tukutuku Pattern.

My Tukutuku pattern represents Waihi Beach. You can see the fish that swim in the sea. I like the big waves and the cold water because I like swimming. I also like the fish, especially the green ones!

This week our students, Board of Trustees, parents and staff had the opportunity to share with the Education Review Office (ERO) our journey in Teaching and Learning since 2006 and our goals for our future. All classes were viewed, meetingsheld and documentation shared. This afternoon the ERO Team has feed back to the BOT and staff-sharing celebrations and our next steps. These outcomes will be shared with our school community with the aim that we can work together to be the best we can be at Waihi East School.

Our thanks to parents for your great ideas. An idea shared at a Charter meeting was having a parent as a Class Representative. The Class Representative would work alongside the teacher and students helping to plan events, organize activities and share information with parents. We like this idea!! If you would like to be a Class Representative, please let us know.

Basketball has started on Mondays after school at the Event Centre for Year 5/6 students from 3.30pm. Head down to the Event Centre next week if you would like your child to join in. Professional development is the focus of staff meeting every Monday after school. Sadly we are unable to support teams this year in a coaching role.

As part of our Vision, we are developing information and communication technology at Waihi East School. To fund a data show projector for each classroom we will be selling chocolate as a fundraiser. Boxes of chocolates will be sent home to each family next week, please let us know if you are unable to sell these. Our thanks to Donna and Leanne for organizing this fundraiser. Those children who did not return money raised or chocolates last time, will not be issued chocolates.
